【Can individuals with cardiovascular diseases receive COVID-19 vaccination? 】

Pre-existing cardiovascular diseases significantly increase the risk of severe complications from COVID-19 infection.

The Hong Kong College of Cardiology (the College) makes the following recommendations for patients with cardiovascular diseases:

 Patients with stable cardiovascular diseases or stable cardiovascular risk factors, and without other contraindications, should receive COVID-19 vaccination.
 Patients experiencing unstable symptoms like chest pain, shortness of breath, syncope or palpitations should seek medical attention before COVID-19 vaccination.
 In general, patients having undergone elective percutaneous coronary intervention or coronary artery bypass graft surgery can have COVID-19 vaccination one month after the procedure. For patients after acute myocardial infarction, they can receive COVID-19 vaccination after one month if they are stable after the acute illness, or as soon as they are stabilised at a later time. There may be variation in some patients and recommendation on timing of vaccination should be made by attending cardiologist or cardiac surgeon individually.
